[Coladam] Latest update on the display/printer saga

I think the last two steps may only occur when it's connected and talking to the
ADAM. Can't recall off the top of my head.
I'll have to see if I can dig up information on how to put the printer into the
self test mode I was talking about in the earlier email.

The bad printer is detached from the ADAM, so I am not sure if that matters now.
But here goes...
Move head to home position CHECK
spin daisy wheel to home position CHECK
advance roller NOPE
move print head to left margin NOPE, just stays left.

Does it spin the daisy wheel when it reaches home?
Normal sequence should be:
Move head to home position
spin daisy wheel to home position
advance roller
move print head to left margin

When I pull the reset on the non-printing SmartWriter, it returns to the home
position but does not advance the roller.

If memory serves (and maybe someone can validate). There is a way to put the
printer into self test mode while shorting out a pin on the circuit board while
powering it up. It'll print every character on the print wheel over and over
when you do. Can't remember where exactly you do that.
When you pull the system reset, does the print head return to the home position
and advance the roller?

I opened up the first printer, the one giving me display problems, but could
print. I took some compressed air to it. Made some observations: 1) some
screws were missing 2) the wires & components are slightly different than the
2nd printer. 3) a shield that was blocking the daisy wheel/print mechanism in
the 2nd printer, was not present in this one.
Well, ever since I put it back together, does display hasn’t screwed up on me. A
Christmas miracle perhaps? I dunno.
However, my second ADAM is pretty much useless, but if I ever get around to
learning electronics, I’d like to repair it.
